About Warlpiri Youth Development Aboriginal Corporation (WYDAC)

Warlpiri Youth Development Aboriginal Corporation (WYDAC) has dedicated itself to developing the strength, health, confidence and leadership of Warlpiri youth since 1993. The program aims to promote positive and meaningful future pathways for all young Warlpiri people.

The notable and sustainable success of the program has been firmly based on the strength of Warlpiri youth, families and their communities, as well as the ongoing commitment of staff. The program was created by, and for, Warlpiri people, and is governed by a Warlpiri Committee.

The WYDAC head office is located in Yuendumu Community, however, WYDAC is comprised of a variety of programs operating at five different Warlpiri sites – Yuendumu, Willowra, Nyirrpi, Lajamanu and Mt Theo Outstation. WYDAC also have an office located in Alice Springs. There are over 70 staff across the entire organisation with more than half of these being Warlpiri people.

About the Opportunity

WYDAC now has an opportunity for an Office Coordinator to join their Head Office team in Yuendumu, NT on a full-time basis.

Reporting directly to the General Manager – Youth & Family Services, this position will be responsible for ensuring the WYDAC Head Office runs smoothly and efficiently by overseeing the office administration, client and community engagement, support staff, stakeholders and service areas. 

Day to day responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the administrative and operational matters in the WYDAC office;
  • Managing frequent face to face engagement with the Board and Community members in a culturally responsive and effective way;
  • Overseeing and supervising administrative staff; 
  • Training and scheduling administrative volunteers;
  • Coordinating front office coverage; and
  • Assuming responsibility for overall front desk activities, including management of the reception and meeting areas.

About You

WYDAC is seeking candidates with previous experience working in an administrative and/or supervisory capacity, with knowledge of administrative practices and modern office management principles, procedures and techniques and their adaptations.

You will be a resourceful and self-motivated team player with strong organisational skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

The WYDAC Head Office is a safe space for the Warlpiri community, and this role represents the first point of contact for young people and families to feel welcome and attended to. As such you will have good communication skills along with a demonstrated understanding of, and experience working with, cross-cultural persons and community development.

A resilient operator, you will have good negotiation skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure. You will demonstrate resourcefulness, self-motivation and independent decision-making capabilities, whilst working within a multi-disciplinary team.

Excellent computer skills, including the use of spreadsheets and databases, will also be a requirement of this role.

Please note: To be considered you must have a current ‘Class C’ Open Driver’s License and be willing to undergo a criminal history check and Working with Children clearance (Ochre Card) prior to commencement.

About Yuendumu, NT

Sitting on the edge of the Tanami Desert, 300 kilometres north-west of Alice Springs, the remote community of Yuendumu is one of the largest Aboriginal communities in central Australia and has a thriving community of Aboriginal artists.

Yuendumu is a community largely made up of the Warlpiri and Anmatyerr Aboriginal people, with a population of approximately 817. It is located within the Yuendumu Aboriginal Lands Trust area on traditional Anmatyerr and Warlpiri land and includes numerous outstations.

For an isolated area, Yuendumu is surprisingly busy. With a strong arts centre, women's centre, its own media centre and a cutting-edge youth program, Yuendumu is a community known for its energy and vitality.
