About the Organisation
Warlpiri Youth Development Aboriginal Corporation (WYDAC), formerly Mt Theo Program, was started by the Yuendumu Community in 1993 to address chronic petrol sniffing in Yuendumu. WYDAC achieved unprecedented community success in this initial struggle, which led to considerable growth in the scope of the services provided. WYDAC now provides a comprehensive range of programs that deliver diversion, development, treatment, and leadership services throughout the Warlpiri region.
WYDAC was created by, and for, Warlpiri people, and is governed by a Warlpiri Committee. WYDAC head office is located in Yuendumu Community, and the organisation has permanent staffing and operations at five different Warlpiri sites – Yuendumu, Willowra, Nyirrpi, Lajamanu remote communities and Mt Theo Outstation. The notable and sustainable success of the program has been firmly based on the support and strength of local Warlpiri youth and their communities, as well as the ongoing commitment of staff.

About the Opportunity
The Warlpiri Youth Development Aboriginal Corporation (WYDAC) is currently seeking a Social Worker to join their team as an Intensive Family Support Case Worker, based in Lajamanu, NT. This role is offered as a 12-month contract role, with the opportunity to extend for the right candidate.
The aim of the program you'll be working within is to provide comprehensive services to vulnerable and disadvantaged families with children 0-12, where children have been identified to have a high risk of, or are currently experiencing neglect in order to keep children out of the child protection system. The program incorporates Warlpiri ideas, solutions and approaches in its work to improve child and family well-being.
In this pivotal role, your primary responsibility will be to provide intensive case management support to vulnerable families, providing trauma-informed, strengths-based, early intervention with the aim of supporting strengths, increasing capacity, resilience and skills within the family, supporting them to address the presenting issues.
Reporting to the Intensive Family Support Service Coordinator, WYDAC Management team, and the WYDAC Board, and working as part of a supportive team of Indigenous and non-Indigenous staff, you will provide direct case management to individuals and their families.
Some of your key duties will include (but will not be limited to):
- Ensuring that case management/social work practice is culturally appropriate to the Warlpiri context and in line with the strategic direction of the Board and WYDAC values;
- Developing and reviewing case management plans in close collaboration with the IFSS Coordinator;
- Ensuring collaborative educational delivery around pertinent issues (as determined by client presentation/presenting issues) is undertaken;
- Working directly with mentors living in the community, to ensure they are well supported, developed and engaged with the program;
- Ensuring quality control tasks are managed and completed within allocated timeframes; and
- Facilitating ongoing adherence to quality management principles across WYDAC.

About You
WYDAC is seeking candidates who possess tertiary qualifications in Social Work or similar and an understanding of the complex issues facing Indigenous people in Australia. A proven background in trauma-informed, complex, intensive family case management, with skills and knowledge around supporting families who have experiences of trauma relating to the socio-political context, as well as psychosocial issues such as mental health, family and domestic violence, food and economic security will be essential.
Your demonstrated resilience and capacity for resourcefulness, self-motivation and independent decision-making will be pivotal to your success. You will have exceptional communication and negotiation skills, including your ability to manage internal and external relationships effectively.
An understanding and experience in working within cross-cultural environments and community development, preferably in a remote indigenous context, and a knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture including the issues affecting remote Aboriginal people, will be highly regarded. You'll be tactile, respectful and flexible in your approach, ensuring culturally safe delivery of services that focus on the needs of the client.
A Criminal History Check and Working with Children clearance (Ochre Card) will be required prior to commencement. Additionally, you'll require a strong level of computer literacy and hold an open 'C' class Driver's License.
