About the Opportunity
Warlpiri Youth Development Aboriginal Corporation (WYDAC) has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Adult Learning Centre Manager to join their team based in Yuendumu, remote NT.
As Centre Manager, your primary responsibility will be to lead the Learning Centre team to develop a 5 day per week programme, covering four key learning areas:
- Informal Learning Centre Program- Supporting local learners with access to services such as online banking, applying for a birth certificate, phone activation, email account set up, and other short, discrete learning opportunities.
- Non-formal Learning Centre Youth Development Program- Responding to community needs through workshops or brokering visiting services, providing community education in areas such as nutrition, sexual health, how to vote, budgeting, cyber safety and legal aid.
- Formal Learning Centre Program - Brokering formal learning through a range of partner RTO’s offering quality training and appropriate training materials. Key industry areas include, but are not limited to, Community Services, Multi-Media, Business, Sport & Recreation and Foundation Skills.
- Warlpiri Language Program- Facilitating a strong engagement with language and culture including helping people access bi-lingual texts and other Warlpiri resources.
Some of your key responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:
- Ensuring that Warlpiri governance and direction is adhered to and included in all aspects of program development and delivery;
- Fostering ongoing relationships and communication with external stakeholders;
- Adhering to quality management procedures;
- Attending and documenting internal and external meetings effectively and appropriately;
- Monitoring and assisting with all relevant program data entry;
- Ensuring all required reports are completed on time and are of a high standard; and
- Ensuring documents pertaining to the policies and procedures of the Learning Centre are maintained.

About You
Do you have experience in Adult Education supporting learners to develop literacy skills?
Have you worked in a TAFE in the access education area?
Do you have TESOL experience?
If you answered yes to any of the above, we would love to hear from you!
This is a new and pivotal role for WYDAC. The successful candidate will have demonstrated knowledge and experience in adult education, in particular adult language literacy & numeracy (LLN), and as a minimum, hold a relevant tertiary qualification in this area, as well as a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or be working towards).
You will be a resourceful and self-motivated leader with a demonstrated understanding of, and/or experience working with, cross-cultural persons and community development, preferably in a remote context.
Candidates who have a TESOL background are also encouraged to apply/will also be considered.
You will demonstrate excellent communication skills, along with the ability to lead a team with resourcefulness, self-motivation and independent decision-making capabilities. A resilient operator, you will have good negotiation, problem-solving and stress management skills to deal effectively with the day to day duties.
Excellent computer skills, including the use of spreadsheets and databases, are also required.
Most importantly, WYDAC is looking for an individual who has a broad approach to engaging people in learning. You’ll be passionate about adult education, and see every community interaction as a learning opportunity!
Although not essential, a VET qualification and First Aid Certificate will be regarded.

About WYDAC
Warlpiri Youth Development Aboriginal Corporation (WYDAC), formerly Mt Theo Program, was started by Yuendumu Community in 1993 to address chronic petrol sniffing in Yuendumu. WYDAC achieved unprecedented community success in this initial struggle, which led to considerable growth in the scope of the services provided. WYDAC now provides a comprehensive range of programs that deliver diversion, development, treatment, and leadership services throughout the Warlpiri region.
WYDAC was created by, and for, Warlpiri people, and is governed by a Warlpiri Committee. WYDAC head office is located in Yuendumu Community, and the organisation has permanent staffing and operations at five different Warlpiri sites – Yuendumu, Willowra, Nyirrpi, Lajamanu remote communities and Mt Theo Outstation. The notable and sustainable success of the program has been firmly based on the support and strength of local Warlpiri youth and their communities, as well as the ongoing commitment of staff.

About Yuendumu, NT
Sitting on the edge of the Tanami Desert, 300 kilometres north-west of Alice Springs, the remote community of Yuendumu is one of the largest Aboriginal communities in central Australia and has a thriving community of Aboriginal artists.
Yuendumu is a community largely made up of the Warlpiri and Anmatyerr Aboriginal people, with a population of approximately 817. It is located within the Yuendumu Aboriginal Lands Trust area on traditional Anmatyerr and Warlpiri land and includes numerous outstations.
For an isolated area, Yuendumu is surprisingly busy. With a strong arts centre, women's centre, its own media centre and a cutting edge youth program, Yuendumu is a community known for its energy and vitality.
